Elastic Wave Propagation in a Stainless-Steel Standard and Verification of a COMSOL Multiphysics Numerical Elastic Wave Toolbox

Laboratory-based elastic wave measurements are commonly used to quantify the seismic properties of Earth’s crust and upper mantle. Different types laboratory apparatuses available for such measurements, simulating at different pressure temperature. To complement we present a numerical toolbox investigate rock samples. The model is benchmarked against experimental results from multi-anvil apparatus, using stainless steel calibration standard. Measured values mean compressional- shear-wave velocities room conditions block were 6.03 km/s 3.26 km/s, respectively. Calculated predicted 6.12 3.30 compressional velocities.
